Tsujio Ippei’s wrapping paper looks fresh baked goods

Tokyo-based designer Tsujio Ippei turns the art of gift wrapping into something warm, unexpected, and just a little bit surreal. His latest project, Bakermee, is a playful set of wrapping papers that makes whatever you wrap look like a loaf of bread. The collection also uses textured paper to make the wrapping feel almost as real as the bread it mimics.

Each Bakermee set includes three generously sized A2 sheets, each featuring a different bread pattern. There’s KACHIKACHI, which looks like a classic baguette and fits long, cylindrical items; SAKUSAKU, inspired by the layers of a Danish pastry, perfect for small gifts; and HUKAHUKA, a soft shokupan-style design that works for boxy packages. Stickers are also included, so you can add a personal message in butter- or jam-style lettering.

Beyond its playful look, what sets Bakermee apart is also the way it engages the sense of touch. Graphic and product designer Tsujio Ippei chooses coarse-textured paper to echo the surface of real baked bread, adding a tactile dimension and making the illusion more intense. The sheets are large, A2 in size, making them flexible beyond gift wrapping. Many might fold them into book covers, envelopes, or other personal projects once the gift is unwrapped.

While it’s ultimately just wrapping paper, Bakermee manages to invite a moment of surprise and lightheartedness that, sometimes, is all it takes to make a routine moment feel more personal.
